Judging Criteria

  • Does the audience come away with new insights, a better understanding or feel inspired to learn more about NFP because of this video?
  • Audience Appeal: Does this video engage the target audience, primarily youth and young adults?
  • Technical Merit: Do technical elements add to or detract from the video’s overall effectiveness?

Judges

Damon C. Owens, Dynamic Speaker, Executive Director of The Theology of the Body Institute

The Theology of the Body Institute is committed to upholding the teachings of Jesus Christ as given to us through the Catholic Church.

Damon is also the founder of Joy-Filled Marriage NJ (www.joyfilledmarriagenj.org), a non-profit organization providing training, resources, and support for engaged and married couples.

Damon and his wife Melanie have been teaching and promoting Natural Family Planning (NFP) from Seton Hall University and throughout New Jersey since 1993, and are founders of the New Jersey Natural Family Planning Association (www.njnfp.org). Damon keeps a full speaking schedule at national conferences, marriage seminars, high schools, seminaries, and youth groups on the good news of sexuality, chastity, Theology of the Body, Theology of the Family, and NFP.

Damon has published numerous articles and appeared on EWTN Life on the Rock and March for Life 2006, ABC World News Tonight, CBS News 48 Hours, BET Evening News, and National Public Radio. He is also an accomplished gospel singer.

He currently lives in West Orange, NJ with his wife Melanie, and their six young daughters Naomi, Leah, Rachel, Therese, Collette and Veronica.

Jessica M. H. Smith, Feminist, NFP Blogger, Missions Director for The Edith Stein Foundation

Born in Germany, raised in Virginia, Saudi Arabia and Alaska, it was a natural foundation for Jessica to live as an adult in Seattle, California, England, Indiana, Wisconsin and Colorado. This thirty-something writer appreciates the grandeur of global living, but delights in the simplicity of small town life. She currently resides in Central Wyoming with her husband of five years.

Her blog, NFP Works, was one of the first to appear on this topic, and several posts over the years have caught the attention of international bloggers. In 2009, she was interviewed by TIME magazine about her “Go Organic” brochure as an innovative approach to promoting NFP. This was followed up by an interview with Sweden’s version of NPR about “green sex” and Catholics using NFP. More recently she was featured by the Knights of Columbus for NFP Awareness Week 2011.

Greg and Jennifer Willits, Speakers, Authors and Co-hosts of SiriusXM’s “The Catholics Next Door”

Greg and Jennifer Willits have been married since 1995, have four young boys and a daughter, and along the way have been blessed as the founders of Rosary Army, a worldwide non-profit organization. Prior to joining The Catholic Channel, they served as officers of the Star Quest Production Network.
