The Judging Process<\/strong><\/h2>\n

(See the list of contest judges below.)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

A three-tiered judging process began once all submissions were uploaded following the January deadline.<\/p>\n

First Level–<\/strong> All entries were screened by a committee for appropriateness of content and copyright infringement as part of the preliminary judging process.<\/p>\n

Second Level–<\/strong> Entries were divided by category and reviewed by industry professionals and those involved in youth and young adult ministry. These committees selected their top nominations for each category based on the judging criteria below.<\/p>\n

Final Level\u2014<\/strong> A panel of distinguished judges was divided among the award categories. They reviewed the top entries and used the judging criteria to select winners for each category.<\/p>\n

Judging Criteria<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The over-riding purpose of films submitted to the \u201cShare the Story\u201d Contest was to effectively illustrate the Catholic story, leading viewers to a clearer, fuller understanding of the Catholic faith.<\/p>\n

The films were judged using the following criteria and weight:<\/strong><\/p>\n

–How Fully, Compellingly the Film Conveys the Story of Its Subject Matter (40%)<\/p>\n

–Effectiveness in Reaching Youth and Young Adults (30%)<\/p>\n

–Originality & Creativity in Presentation (20%)<\/p>\n

–Level of Technicality (10%)<\/p>\n

He is a former director of religious education and youth minister at St. Monica’s Catholic Church, Santa Monica, CA.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Erika Anderson
\n<\/strong>After receiving a bachelor\u2019s degree in journalism from Georgia Southern University, Erika spent 10 years as a staff writer for The Georgia Bulletin<\/em>, the newspaper of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. During her time at the paper, which has a circulation of more than 80,000, Erika received several awards for stories she wrote about national and international topics, including the death of Pope John Paul II and the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.\u00a0Since 2007, Erika has worked for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, first as a writer and editor in the marketing and public relations department, and now as a grant writer for the Children’s Foundation.\u00a0Additionally, through her blog, \u201cErika is Losing It,\u201d Anderson shares her journey of weight loss with thousands of readers. She also continues to freelance for The Georgia Bulletin<\/em>, and has written several articles for the Goodness Reigns website.<\/p>\n

\nBarbara has been married to her husband Rob for 31 years. \u00a0They have three children. Barb has been in youth ministry for 23 years, serving in four different parishes. \u00a0She looks forward to several more years serving the young church.<\/span> <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Frank Brennan<\/strong>
\nFrank was born in Elizabeth, NJ, and moved to Miami at the age of 13. He graduated from Florida International University with a B.A. in English. During his freshman year of high school, Frank felt a strong calling to filmmaking and began writing, directing, and producing his own work alongside his now wife, Laura Paulina Alvarado. They began a nonprofit company called 7eventhDay Media Inc. Frank is the co-founder, co-director and film coordinator of the John Paul II International Film Festival(jp2filmfestival.org). Frank is also an award-winning writer and director for his acclaimed short films Best Kept<\/em> and Finding John Doe<\/em>. He is a former youth and young adults minister and is a current member of the National Association of Catholic Youth Ministry Leaders.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>John Brockmeier
\n<\/strong>John is the youth ministry coordinator at Holy Trinity parish in Louisville, KY. He has been involved in youth ministry for many years, ever since he was in high school. He has a great interest in peer-to-peer ministry and ministry through music. In his free time, John enjoys running, ultimate frisbee, playing guitar, and singing. He is very glad to help with Goodness Reigns as he believes videos are a perfect opportunity for peer-to-peer ministry. John has been a youth\u00a0minister\u00a0for 3 and 1\/2 years.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Fr. James Bromwich
\n<\/strong>Fr. James was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Louisville, KY, in 2003 after having received a Masters of Divinity from St. Mary of the Lake University-Mundelein Seminary. He subsequently received a Licentiate in Sacred Theology, writing his thesis on Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the New Evangelization and the Laity<\/em>. In addition, Fr. James has an M.A. in International Conflict Intervention from the Patterson School of Diplomacy at the University of Kentucky, an M.A. in Catholic Thought and Life from St. Meinrad School of Theology in Indiana, a B.S. in Nursing from Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY, and a B.A. in History from the University of Arkansas. Fr. James\u2019 areas of particular interest include Natural Law and human dignity, biomedical ethics, and international affairs and the Church.\u00a0Fr. James served as administrator and pastor of three parishes for six years in South Central Kentucky. At the invitation of Bishop Kevin Rhoades, Fr. James and another priest moved to Fort Wayne in 2012 to form an Oratory of St. Philip Neri in the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, with a focus on the New Evangelization and the laity and promoting the dignity of the human person. Fr. James is currently an adjunct professor of medical ethics at the University of St. Francis, part-time chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital, and president and founder of The Neri Institute, a think tank dedicated to promoting the dignity of the human person and the New Evangelization through teaching, scholarship and the media.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Linda Bugos-Noble
\n<\/strong>Linda is a farm girl from West Central Illinois.\u00a0 She attended Loyola University of Chicago-Medical Center campus and received her Dental Hygiene degree.\u00a0 She then packed her bags for two years in the Peace Corps in Jamaica\u2019s poor Clarendon area.\u00a0 When she returned, she continued her education at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana and received a degree in Health Occupations Teacher Education. She then taught at Parkland College in Champaign for 3 years.\u00a0 Her next move would be more permanent as she moved to Beach Park and has stayed put for the last 34 years.\u00a0 She currently works as a dental hygienist and is part-time coordinator of the Teen Ministry at Our Lady of Humility Parish in Beach Park, IL\u00a0 She is the mother of two most excellent daughters; one of them is going to make her a grandmother this summer.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Sr. Helena Burns, FSP
\n<\/strong>Sr. Helena is a member of the Daughters of St. Paul,\u00a0an international congregation founded to communicate God’s Word through the media. She is finishing her M.A. in Media Literacy Education; has a B.A. in theology and philosophy from St. John’s University, NYC; studied screenwriting at UCLA and Act One, Hollywood; and holds a certificate in Pastoral Youth Ministry. She is the movie reviewer for \u201cThe Catholic New World,\u201d Chicago\u2019s archdiocesan newspaper. She is currently writing and producing a documentary on the life of Blessed James Alberione (www.MediaApostle.com) and is a co-producer on www.The40Film.com. Her book for young women is He Speaks to You<\/em>. \n<\/strong>Chris Cogswell is a revert – a returnee – to the Catholic church that he grew up in. \u00a0He loves the daily challenge of the faith and enthusiastically tries to implement the faith each day. \u00a0Chris likes to help and encourage Catholic ventures, both for-profit and non-profit. \u00a0He founded the Catholic Business Network of Louisville and works with many Catholic businesses nationwide. \u00a0Chris is married to Ampy Lee Cogswell, and they have an adopted son with hopes of adopting more children. \u00a0Chris was a member and chair of the St James\/St Brigid parish cluster in the Highlands and now attends St Martin of Tours in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. \u00a0Chris runs Chancery Financial Advisors, which he established in 2002. \u00a0Chancery Financial focuses on asset management and advisory and consulting work for mid-market companies and individuals throughout the US and internationally. \u00a0Prior to establishing Chancery Financial, Chris lived and worked in Hong Kong and China in the investment banking industry for six years. \u00a0Chris graduated from St. Xavier High School and has History and Public Affairs degrees from Indiana University, Bloomington. \u00a0Chris also has a Chinese language degree from a Beijing, China university and a Master of International Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management.<\/p>\n

\nDonna-Marie is an award-winning author and journalist, speaker, catechist, reviewer, and the EWTN television host of Everyday Blessings for Catholic Moms, and Catholic Mom’s Cafe–which she created. A Catholic wife and mother of five, Donna-Marie was noted as one of the Top Ten Most Fascinating Catholics in 2009 by Faith and Family Live<\/em>. She enjoyed a decade-long friendship with Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta and became a Lay Missionary of Charity. For many years her spiritual director was Servant of God John A. \n<\/strong>Warren is the director of Youth Ministry for the Diocese of Prince Albert. \u00a0He and his wife, Lori-Lou, have been married 15 years and have 4 children.\u00a0Warren got his start in youth ministry almost 25 years ago in Calgary in the SEARCH Retreat program where he was touched deeply at the age of 15. \u00a0He then led the ministry for the 4 yrs through high school and beyond. \u00a0After graduation, he discerned priesthood and religious life with the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI) for 5 yrs. \u00a0Warren received a degree in History\/English, with a theological perspective. \u00a0Upon leaving, Warren determined that his call was to youth ministry all along and has been serving directly in the field ever since!\u00a0The 7 years following, Warren gained immense experience, connections and training in youth ministry by working for the Diocese of Alexandria, LA, and the Archdiocese of Mobile, AL. \u00a0He has served as provincial representative for Mississippi and Alabama and also as Regional Coordinator for 5 states (Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky). \u00a0He also coordinated an annual Steubenville Youth Conference in Louisiana. \u00a0Warren served on regional, national and international committees, boards, and initiatives. \u00a0During that time he has continued his passion in evangelizing and working with the poor and for social justice by leading service trips and mission trips to Haiti and Mexico.\u00a0In August 2003 Warren returned to Canada \u2013 to Saskatchewan \u2013 to share his experience, talents, and time\u2013 and to raise his growing family. \u00a0He helped start and served two terms as Chair of the Canadian Catholic Youth Ministry Network (CCYMN) and Western representative. \nMike is an Associate Director for the Office of Religious Education for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He has been with the Archdiocese for over 10 years. Mike works closely with over 280 parishes in the Los Angeles area to develop strong youth programs and confirmation programs. He has been working with youth for over 30 years. He is a member of St. Monica Parish in Santa Monica, CA. Mike served on the Board of Directors for the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry for five years. He is originally from Nashville, TN, but is happy to call LA his home.\u00a0Mike graduated from Lambuth University in Jackson, TN, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. \nIn 1954, Franklyn Soldo was hired by Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios as a Production Assistant for CEO Dory Schary’s office.\u00a0 He was on constant call to assist with Special Effects and set design during a period when the studio had\u00a0twelve to fifteen films in production at the same time. \u00a0 In 1959 Television caused the end of the studio “Contract Player” and the industry lost its position as the primary source of entertainment.Warner Brothers offered Mr. Soldo one final opportunity; a five-week location shoot in Las Vegas.\u00a0 In early 1960 “Ocean’s Eleven” was released and Franklyn was now a writer for the CBS radio network News Division in Hollywood.\u00a0 He was transferred to Minneapolis and a new radio career was launched with a microphone and a format.\u00a0 Paul Franklyn’s reflections in Jazz.\u00a0 During the sixties he interviewed most of the Jazz greats of the time.\u00a0 In 1969, his beloved Carole helped him bring another era to a close with her sensuous station breaks.\u00a0 It was time for them to return to Southern California and retire to a quiet life where they worked in health care and teaching.\u00a0In 1996, Franklyn and Carole formed Genesis Productions and plays were written.\u00a0 Franklyn completed the book and lyrics to his musical TRIBUNAL\u00a0but a composer was required; and, he found him.\u00a0 Eric Abrahamson was the pianist at Knott\u2019s Berry Farm’s Calico\u00a0Saloon “Melodrama” where he still performs.\u00a0 Eric also performs at Disneyland’s plaza circle with his Dixieland Jazz band.\u00a0 The TRIBUNAL score was completed, tracks were laid down and Carole Soldo took the helm as Producer.\u00a0 Without her, the musical would never see an opening night.\u00a0 Tribunal ran intermittently from 1996 through 1999\u00a0at different theaters.\u00a0 Franklyn and Carole are retired and living in Louisville, KY, where they attend St. Patrick’s Church.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Sal Solo<\/strong>
\nWith Brit band Classix Nouveaux, Sal toured the world achieving #1 hits, earning gold and silver discs. He also sang with the Rockets in Italy, who sold 1.5 million albums. He relocated to the USA in 1999 and is now a US citizen, doing large youth events around the country, and developing a reputation for unique multimedia presentations with video and music. He is now A & Director for Heart Beat Records and their new youth division, The Buzz Label. He has produced various other artists, written one book, performed in 37 countries, and released a total of 20 albums, both with his bands, and under his own name.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nFr. Daniel is a priest originally from Kentucky. He is the fourth out of five sons born from Freddy and Gayle, who celebrated 50 years of marriage last August. Before ordination to the priesthood in 2004, he taught middle and high school students for five years. \u00a0After serving in the Archdiocese of Louisville for seven years, he, along with Fr. James Bromwich, moved to Fort Wayne at the invitation of Bishop Kevin Rhoades to begin the formation of a community of priests and brothers living according to the charism of St. Philip Neri, with the ultimate goal of forming a new Congregation of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri, known commonly throughout the world as the Oratorians. \u00a0Presently, they are a Community-in-Formation called The Sons of St. Philip Neri. \u00a0Their life consists in living and praying together as a family, and some of their apostolates are working toward the sanctification of the laity through what is called the Secular Oratory, imparting a missionary spirit in parishes in conjunction with the New Evangelization, helping young people on college campuses stay focused on God and His Church, and promoting the respect of the human person and building a culture of life by using right reason and Natural Law through various avenues and media outlets. Since moving to Fort Wayne in May, besides working in the formation of a new Oratory, Fr. Daniel has been assisting at parishes around the diocese, working as a chaplain for the Newman Catholic Fellowship at IPFW, and as a chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital. In May of 2013, Fr. Daniel will become a pastor of St. John the Baptist Church in Fort Wayne.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fr. Don Woznicki<\/strong>
\nFr. Don was born and raised in South Bend, IN. Before his calling and ordination to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Chicago (May 18, 2002 – John Paul II’s birthday), Fr. Don received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN. (1984) and worked for 13 years as a Chemical Engineer.\u00a0In 1997, while in Chicago working as an investigations\/enforcement officer for the United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) [Air & Radiation Division], Fr. Don sensed the call to priesthood. In 1998, Fr. Don entered the University of St. Mary of the Lake (Mundelein Seminary) for the Chicago Archdiocese.\u00a0Since his time in the seminary, Fr. Don sensed the great need and urgency for the Catholic Church to be more present within the entertainment industry because of its great global influence in every aspect of our lives. With the permission and encouragement of his rector, pastor, and Cardinal Francis George, Fr. Don spent his summers, spring break, vacation time, and other opportunities to travel to Los Angeles to gain a better understanding and appreciation for the industry. He eventually was asked to be Chaplain to Act One, Inc.: Writing and Executive Programs (Hollywood, CA.). Fr. Don\u2019s ministerial interest extended into working with other Catholics in Hollywood to develop a pastoral plan to evangelize the entertainment industry. Fr. Don also founded a non-profit initiative, called \u201cNew Ethos\u201d to encourage more truth, beauty, and goodness in the entertainment culture. These activities have eventually led Fr. Don to request a transfer to LA and begin the incardination process to become a priest for the Archdiocese of LA.\u00a0Fr. Don currently is the associate pastor of St. Dorothy parish (Glendora, CA.).<\/p>\n
