Im already planning a video! The only thing i think i will have problems with is the 7 min limit.

    • GRDirector on said:

I know 7 minutes may seem short but it’s important to keep within the time limit for our judges! Thanks for your interest and we look forward to receiving your video!

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Wil,
Our plan is to offer individual awards too. More details will be released once the Mini Contest concludes.
      Stay tuned!

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Wil,
At the moment we are offering prizes by age categories. If you are a young adult you would submit to the young adult category even if you are making the video by yourself. Deadline is Jan. 7, 2013.
Good luck and God bless you!

Wow, this is just an opportunity that we’re looking for. I have youth ages 18, 17, and 13 and they want to go but we don’t have enough funds to cover their expenses.

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Domingo!
We hope you consider entering. Videos are due Jan. 7, 2013, and should be on a topic interesting to your youth that is found in the YOUCAT.
      Good luck and God bless!

Are there any criteria? Or just make a video about a specific topic in the Catechism?

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Michal,
Thank you for your interest. We ask that films be under 7 minutes and primarily appeal to the young church (teens/young adults). People have submitted dramas, documentaries, music videos, commercials, interviews in other contests so be creative in your approach. You may want to check out some of our past submissions at www.goodnessreigns.com/vote.
Good luck and God bless your work!

Is this contest still going on?

    • GRDirector on said:

Yes! Videos are due Jan. 7 and must be under 7 minutes. We ask you to base your video off of a topic found in either the YOUCAT or the Catechism of the Catholic Church (a very broad spectrum of content choices). It can be approached in a number of ways–as a story illustrating a topic or an interview or a commercial or a documentary. The target audiences are teens and young adults so keep that in mind when choosing a topic and your approach. Audience Appeal is an important component for the judges.
      Thanks for your interest.

      Good luck and God bless!

Dear Goodness Reigns. I thank you for the wonderful work you are doing for our young and to the Church in general. Well I would like to ask for help in any way you can in at least getting the YouCate for the rural parish that I work in. I would have loved to have some of the youth join the Pope in Rio but I do not think we are able to do it because of lack of video cameras and restrictions by the civil authorities to do so without accreditation. So if we can get any thing to help us celebrate this greatest time it will be more welcome. I pray for your ministry and here in Harare Zimbabwe. Stay blessed.

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Father,
Thank you for your email. We do realize the difficulties of some to create videos. During one of our past videos a gentleman from Pakistan emailed photos and words to a student in the USA and the student put together a video/slideshow. Also, instead of the YOUCAT you can access the Catechism through the Vatican website and use that as your source.

If you are interested in working with a student in the USA, let me know and I will see if I can find someone interested.

      God bless your ministry!

  14. Am I only able to submit one video for two category’s?

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Adam,
Thanks for your question! We do not limit the number of videos a person may submit so you may enter more than one video.

  16. Shannon on said:

Could you clarify the rules concerning the locations of the video. There isn’t anything in the contest rules concerning this, but in the media release form it seems as though we need written permission from the owners of any property we film on. Does this apply to all locations (eg. public parks, churches, university campus, individual houses)?

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Shannon,
Thanks for the question. You wouldn’t need permission to use a public park or another location that is open to the public. If it’s a business, however, you would need permission.
Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions or comments.
      Good luck and God bless!

Hi, im from Peru and i loved to participate in this contest, im late or i can stil participate?

  18. Hello,

I have a question about the contest.

I am an international student, here in the US. As a non-resident, am I eligible for the contest? The rules does not say anything about that.

    Thank you,
    Kamil

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Kamil,
      Thank you for your email.
Yes, you may participate! The deadline for entries is Jan. 7.

      Good luck and God bless,

  19. Does this film have to be in hd format?

    Thanks

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Adam,
Thanks for your question and interest. It’s not necessary to submit your film in HD format.

      Good luck and God bless!

  20. Everytime I go to judging criteria it take me to a word press site. Is their information I need to know on that site?

  21. Can we video street scenes or scenes of crowds in a public place? Would that mean we would have to get permission from every random passerby or person on a street?

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Sue,
      Thanks for the question.
It’s fine to shoot your video in public places like a street scene or in a public park. You don’t need a media release form for everyone that walks by. You would need a form, though, if you were to interview someone in a park or along the street.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.

      Good luck and God bless!
      Suzanne

  22. Anthony on said:

Is the video limited to 1 subject of the Youcat, or can we include others? (because when you talk about one subject, it inevitably leads to another)

    • Anthony on said:

For example, my main subject for my video is pg. 51 in the youcat (not the numbers on the side but the number of the subject) which is about “If God is all-knowing and all powerful, why does he not prevent evil?” , and my plan is to display that in he great battle of st.Michael and Lucifer. Because the video is about st.michael, and the devil, can i also incorperate the subject of, lets say, “guardian angels” or “courage” or something like that as well as the main subject on pg.51?

      • GRDirector on said:

        Hello Anthony,
        Great question!
Yes! Feel free to list more than one area of the Youcat that your video addresses.
Your subject matter and approach sound very interesting.
Good luck and God bless your efforts!
        Suzanne

  23. Michael on said:

    Hello!
Where can we submit our videos?

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Michael,
Thanks for the question. Go to www.goodnessreigns.com. Click on the green box towards the bottom of the page you land on. There you will find the submissions form and instructions that will walk you through the process.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
      Good luck and God bless!
      Suzanne

  24. If I asked someone through email If I could use a short clip from their YouTube site to be in my video, and they said sure, would I still need to get them to sign the release form? It’s a common video, nothing like art/music, or anything that shows a persons face.

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Adam,
Good question. The best and quickest thing would be to email his approval to us. (You can forward his email to suzanne@goodnessreigns.com.) We’ll keep it on file if something comes up. Always best to cover your bases. Thanks!
(Also, it would be a nice gesture to include the person’s name if you have credits at the end.)

  25. I also have used sound effects from a website that gives permission to use their work. Do I need a written statement from them?

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Adam!
If the website specifically states that people can use their sound effects, I think you are covered. It’s always a nice practice to credit the source for elements in your work, though. It gives credit where credit is due while also educating others on resources for their future videos.
On our submission form there is an area that allows filmmakers to discuss their films so you can include this type of info there too in addition to closing credits or in case you don’t have time for extensive credits at the film’s conclusion.

  26. I know, I have too many questions. The music I am using from a friend. He will give me permission to use it if I give him credit. Would the Release form violate my agreement with him.

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Adam!
      Questions are good!
Giving him credit in the film is probably sufficient if you’re on good terms and he’s a good friend! :)
(Generally, though, it’s always safer to document use of elements like music.)

  27. I am using photos that were sent to me from an organization that has people faces in it. The people are contributing to the organization and some of them are workers. Some of them are posed and others in looking away. The organization has given me permission, so would I still need forms for all the people in the photos?

    Thanks again!

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Adam,
Can you send something in writing from the organization stating that they are giving you permission to use the photos? That would be best at this point. Forwarding an email from them would be ok for the time being. Depending on how the photos are used will determine if we need more documentation before the film is made public in February. Thanks!

I’m looking forward to seeing the finished project!
      Good luck!

  28. Michael on said:

    Hello,
My video was over 100 MB, so I uploaded it onto rapidshare.com following the directions that were emailed to. Should I have received an immediate confirmation email or will this confirmation come in a few hours?

    • GRDirector on said:

Hello Michael, I will be sending emails to those who submit their videos via RapidShare and/or yousendit.com. No worries!
The important thing is to make sure you send us your submission form, too. We will be reviewing all submission forms and will contact participants if there is anything missing.

Good luck and may God bless your efforts!
Suzanne and the Goodness Reigns Team

  30. Hello,

I have problems with upload. What is the final time when submission is closed?

Also, is Vimeo, YouTube OK, or I have to upload on some server like some people asked here?

    Thank you,
    Kamil

  31. GRDirector on said:

    Hello Kamil!

No worries! Just sending us an email to let us know you are trying to send it will suffice for the moment since there appears to be a jam.

Try to complete the submission form by Midnight of your timezone and you will be entered even if we have not received your video yet. Unfortunately, there is a problem uploading. (Some are using RapidShare but you can also wait and upload through our submission form too.)

You can find the submission form here: www.goodnessreigns.com. Click on the words “Submit your film here” and it will take you to the form you need to complete and send.

Good luck and let me know if you have other questions.

    God bless!
Suzanne and the Goodness Reigns Team

  32. Thomas on said:

Hello! I submitted my video but I was wondering if I could make a correction and resubmit it as my final product. Would this be acceptable?

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Thomas,
Please email me at suzanne@goodnessreigns.com to discuss your situation.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
      Suzanne

    • GRDirector on said:

Hello Thomas, We hope you are still planning on submitting your video. Go ahead and complete the submission form and you will be officially entered. Here’s the link: http://goodnessreigns.com/home/gr-2013-share-teh-story-registration-form/
      Good luck!

  33. I’m excited to see the videos people have made. How long do I have to wait for them to be posted?

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello!
The contest videos will be made public in March after our judged portion of the contest. We will release the exact date closer to March once we are ready to begin the People’s Choice portion of the contest. You’ll want to be sure to spread the word to your family and friends who will be able to visit the site and vote for their favorite films–including yours, of course. Details to come!

  34. Are we allowed to post our videos on youtube or will that discualify us?

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Amy,
You may post your vides on YouTube–no problem. BUT, some people like to unveil their video when we launch our People’s Choice voting period thinking their friends and family may have more motivation to see and then vote for your film as one of their favorites. That’s one approach, though, and you have the freedom to decide whether to post early or not.
The People’s Choice voting period will begin in March once the judged portion of the contest concludes.
Good luck and God bless you!
      Suzanne

  35. Alexander on said:

    When is this due??

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Alexander,
Submissions are now closed. We hope to offer another contest in the future. Also, you will have a chance to vote for your favorite YOUCAT films in March during our People’s Choice voting period. God bless!

  36. Hello,

When the winners will be announced?

    Amy

    • GRDirector on said:

      Hello Amy,
The winners will be announced May 1, which is the day we also launch our People’s Choice Award voting period. Thanks for your patience!
